One of the primary functions of any government is to ensure its citizens remain safe from external and internal threats and terrorist attacks. Governments must act and have the policies in place to protect their countries, critical infrastructure, and ensure stability. These include robust intelligence gathering, deep relationships with international allies and partners, information sharing, and strong defence institutions.
Coupling cyber and terrorism and the use of indiscriminate violence against civilians and soft targets causes immense human suffering, fear within societies, and damages public trust in authorities.
Whether motivated by political, religious, economic, or social grievances, the use of terror by state-aligned and non-state actors produces an elevated threat for civil societies around the world. Cyber attacks can be perpetuated by both sophisticated international networks and single ’threat actor’ assailants. To curb and prevent terrorism and its effects, government must to adopt an array of solutions from identifying and nullyfiing terrorist networks to addressing the root grievances which fuel terrorist driven ideologies.
